A man in Seeduwa shot to death by STF

A man who was traveling in a car was shot to death by the Police Special Task Force last night (17). The deceased has been identified as Lalith Wasantha Pintu (44), a resident of Katana, Seeduwa.

According to Police Media Spokesman, Senior DIG Ajith Rohana, a group of STF officers had chased a suspicious whistle car on a tip which received to them. A person inside a car was injured when STF officers used their force to stop the car in the Baseline area in Seeduwa. He was later admitted to the Negombo Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, the police spokesman said.

Police spokesman further added that in order to justify the killing, he had been involved in a number of crimes in different areas of the country since 1991. He is said to be involved in 06 murders and several robberies. It is also said that the Seeduwa Police has commenced a special investigation into the murder under the supervision of the Negombo SSP.

This is the sixth death this year in a country that always speaks about the right to life and the justice of the people. Earlier, Kosgoda Tharaka and Urujuwa were also shot to death by security forces while Vidushan in Batticaloa and Mohamed Alikhan in Panadura were died in police custody. Also, a woman had died in Peliyagoda police custody recently. There were 26 extrajudicial killings last year.
